About the event

What is Chi Gong?

Tai Chi and Chi Gong are ancient forms of Chinese exercise which have been practised for hundreds of years. The soft yet strong, flowing movements, combined with meditative breathing & mind focus, help to develop a deep sense of connection within our bodies and minds.

Through regular practice, this can develop a strong and flexible body and a calm and quiet mind.  In Chi Gong we focus more on the internal flow of Chi (inner life force energy). You can think of it like moving meditation.

This workshop

As Chi flows in all living things we will take the opportunity to bring our awareness to the Chi of the surrounding nature enabling us to feel a deep sense of belonging and connection with the world around us. Specifically we will tune into the birdsong that is so abundant in this beautiful hidden oasis in Amsterdam. You will learn a number of simple yet powerful Chi Gong practices which you can then do at home to keep your Chi flowing, body supple and mind calm.

About Sophie your instructor

Sophie Fagan is a Chi Gong and Tai Chi instructor from the UK now based in The Netherlands. Sophie loves to empower people to feel better in their body and mind, offering workshops like this is one of the ways she gets to do this.

Training thus so far (it never ends of course)

Sophie began her Tai Chi training in 2004 at the Bristol School of Tai Chi focusing on Chen style forms and principles. She since deepened her training at The Wudang Gong Fu Academy in China and Wutang Tai Chi school in the UK training in Wudang style and Yang style Tai Chi. She now continues to train in Chen style with teachers in The Netherlands. This range of experience and inspiration has fuelled the enthusiasm and knowledge inherent in her teaching.

Nice to know

Sophie  founded the Amsterdam Chen Tai Chi and Chi Gong school in 2016 teaching regular classes and workshops in Amsterdam. Since moving to Utrecht she has focussed on working with companies to use Tai Chi and it´s principles as a way of burn-out prevention and stress relief.

Sophie intends to start teaching weekly classes in Utrecht to the public in 2025 - watch this space!
